Home Strength Gear

Strength work is the base of any physique plan, and most of it fits in a spare corner. Bands, a pair of adjustable dumbbells and a kettlebell cover nearly every pattern: squat, hinge, push, pull and carry.

What to look for

  • Check the weight range. Adjustable dumbbells that stop at 25 lb per hand will be outgrown in a few months.
  • Look at storage. A bench or rack is useless if it has to live in a closet.
  • Read the handles and grips. Knurling that is too rough tears hands, and too smooth slips.
