How to do it
- Hold the handles at hip height with elbows close to your sides.
- Turn the rope with your wrists, not your whole arms.
- Hop on the balls of your feet just high enough to clear the rope.
- Land softly and keep a steady rhythm.
Common mistakes
- Jumping too high. A small hop is enough.
- Swinging the arms in big circles. Keep your hands near your hips.
- Looking down. Look ahead and keep your chest up.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: Practice the hop without a rope, then with the rope held in one hand.
Harder: Alternate feet like running in place or try double-unders.
Coaching tip
Start with 20-second rounds and rest 40 seconds. Calves need time to adapt.
