Glute Bridge

Lower body · Beginner · Works: Glutes, hamstrings

How to do it

  1. Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat, hip-width apart.
  2. Press through your heels and lift your hips until your body forms a line from knees to shoulders.
  3. Squeeze your glutes hard at the top for a second.
  4. Lower slowly and repeat.

Common mistakes

  • Arching the lower back at the top. Tuck your ribs down.
  • Pushing through the toes. Keep your heels heavy.
  • Letting the knees fall in. Hold them steady or place a band above them.

Make it easier or harder

Easier: Use a smaller range of motion and focus on the squeeze.

Harder: Lift one leg at a time or rest a dumbbell on your hips.

Coaching tip

Think of squeezing a coin between your glutes at the top of every rep.

Learn each move with light weight first. Stop if you feel sharp pain, dizziness or chest discomfort, and talk to a doctor or qualified trainer if you are unsure.
